The meal was great, i think the food was nice and of course affordable.A drink+ speggetti+ a scoop of ice cream= only $5.90 nett. Moreover, by eating there you're actually doing a good cause. Out of curiosity of why the restaurant is called the Eighteen's chef,i went to ask the boss( Benny) why did he named the cafe Eighteen chef? And he was kind enough to sit down with us and tell us the reason behind it.
He said this:
If a reporter were to ask me why i name my cafe Eighteen's chef, i would tell them that my ultimate aim is to be able to train up another 17 chefs who is ex-convicts and wants to turn over a new leaf and provide employment for them. My mission is to train up the exconvicts and inpart in them skills so that they can turn over a new leafas or after they come out of jail. The number "18"is the monicker of an active local gang. Thus another reason why I name his cafe Eighteen Chefs was to discourage youths to join gangs.( read the full story from Zhiying's blog:http://zyhsim.blogspot.com/
How inspiring yea?! So by eating there, we are actually helping and supporting the ex-convicts to turn over a new leaf at the same time! They do need to be given a second chance. I believe no one would actually purposely go commit a crime so as to get them selfs in jail. In fact i believe many actually commit the crime under forced circumstances, temptations or compulsions. Search your heart,so many times we did something wrong and we are forgiven so why don't we open our hearts and forgive those delinquents and ex-convicts as well? They should be given another chance to prove that they are not bad in nature as well. Hence we should really support this mission of helping those who erred in the past but are willing to change for the better right now, GO EAT AT THAT CAFE OR SUPPORT THE YELLOW RIBBON PROJECT!
